Island Taverna
Guide
I am keen
to represent as many of the island's resorts as possible including
coverage of it's Tavernas and Bars! I would appreciate your own
reviews to enable me to continually add to the page and update views.
Please continue
to email your reviews or post them on the messageboard.

Taverna prices in
Greece certainly have gone up since the introduction of the Euro,
however eating out here is still good value. As a guide in may
it cost around 25 Euros for 2 Amstels,1 saganaki,1 potato salad,1
grilled lamb and a chicken Souvlaki.
Diana's-(Argostoli)
situated overlooking
the lagoon in Agrostoli - delicious greek food, friendly service,
beautiful setting.
There is only one Taverna on Kephalonia
for me and that is Diana`s in Argostoli. The food is superb (don`t
be put off by the menu),the service is first rate and the welcome
is among the friendliest you`ll find anywhere. I can recommend
the Kephalonian meat pie and the moussaka is good too, give it
a try you wo`nt be dissapointed.

Captain'
s
Table (argostoli)
- Argostoli square - authentic
greek restaurant (open all year round - very popular with the locals)
Delicious food and very reasonable.
Jenny Sealey April 2001
Have you got the Captains Table on your
list There are 2 in Argostoli, the best one being by the ferry docking
area. Call me boring if you want - but since I have found this place
I only eat there when in Argostoli . (Ivan Graham 2002)
Captains table (near Argostoil
square)
Location-OK
Service-Very good child friendly
Food- Average (Panagia 2003)
Dum Spiros Spero
(Svoronata)
Located on the main street
in Svoronata, friendly village taverna, good traditional food and
open all day!.Very popular with the locals too, what better recommendation!
We particularly enjoyed the kefalonian meat pie, and kalamari. The
complimentary desserts are usually excellent too! We have visited
Dum Spiros for a number of years now and food and welcome is always consistent.

Mermaid taverna(Sami)
Mermaid Taverna, Sami.
Excellent food at this taverna. It is family run, with the mother
doing the most beautiful traditianal home cooking. Daughter and son
are waiting staff and they are very helpful, advising on ingredients
of each dish etc. Highly recommend it. (Melanie June 2001 )
The Olive Press
(Lassi)
- Lassi - beautiful
garden based tarverna - live music most nights - again very greek
and delicious food.

Mi Abeli (Skala)
One of the best places
that I ate at in Skala was Mi'Abeli, just a couple of doors up from
The Pines, excellent food, very friendly staff, I couldn't ask for
more...!

International (Lakithra
)
A real family run taverna,
with the mother and auntie cooking and two sons waiting on.The food
is very good, nicely presented, and reasonably priced. This taverna
was very popular with the locals too, and also offers a take away
Pizza service. The international is one of the only tavernas in the
area open all year round.
In our oppinion one of
the best tavernas we have visited on kefalonia. (Angie and Shaun 2003)
Zouras (Petani Beach)
This is a very simple
taverna, with plastic chairs and tables and no frills. It has a wonderful
view though of Petani Beach, one of kefalonia's most beautiful places. We
choose fresh grilled sardines, served simply in olive oil with oregano
and freshbread......delicious.Good food,prices, and a great place
to relax. (Angie and Shaun 2003)
Zorbas (Lassi)
Visited Zorbas on one
of their greek dancing nights.Tables were cramped together, and we
felt as if we were being hurried....I had barely glanced at the menu
when the waiter arrived! We all agreed that the meal was the worst
we had experienced on kefalonia. The meat was undercooked and just
summed up the place........rushed! <Paul and Alex 2003)
Riviera Taverna (Sami)
Friendly and
efficient waitress, nice food and spotlessly clean toilets. Good selection
of fruit juices and freshly made Pizza. It has a nice location right
on the harbourfront of Sami, and is a good place to relax, watching
the hustle and bustle that meets the arrival of the ferry from Patras.
(angie & shaun sept 2003)
Zorbas (Lixouri)
Located just off
the square in Lixouri, this genuine taverna has it all- fanatic home
cooked food, great service and is frequented by Greeks. Look no further
in Lixouri for genuine Greek charm and hospitality.
(Clare and Hugh Johnn,
2003)
Stateri (Argostoli)
Stateri is a little
off the tourist beaten track on I. Metaxata, but I have always had
excellent food there.
To find it walk north from the Lixouri ferry and it is opposite the
Sailing Club (very close to Patsouras taverna). The food is 'posh'
Greek (their card calls it Greek Creative Cuisine). The food is delicious
and as It advertises itself as a wine restaurant, there is a selection
of really good wines which would appeal to many people. Can't remember
prices - it is more than the average taverna but not that expensive,
and definitely worth a visit.

Oasis (lixouri)
Very large salads but too much salad dressing.
Specials advertised outside on a board but do check your bill as we
were substantially over-charged.
(Paul and Alex 2003)
Parallax (juntion
of road to Lakithra and Keramies)
Newly opened in June 2003, this taverna
was new to us on our last visit in September. It has an excellent choice
of starters at around 3-4 euro's each, we particularly enjoyed the
fried sweet peppers. Excellent food and friendly service, competitive
prices, this has already established itself as one of our favourite
Tavernas in the Svoronata/Lassi Area.We will definitely be visiting
again during our stay in May.Visited again this May, food still very good, best Kefalonian Meat pie I have ever had, popular now with the locals too, particularly for birthdays etc so May be busy.
