Svoronata is located in the Southwest of the island of Kefalonia, approximately 4 miles south of Argostoli, and 2 miles south of Lassi. Although Svoronata is only minutes from the airport the area is peaceful and scenically very beautiful with lots of olive groves and fields full of wild flowers.

Svoronata village itself is situated about a mile inland, three excellent beaches- Ammes,Avithos and Ai Helis are all within a 30-40 minute walk depending on the exact location of your accommodation.Much of the accommodation is situated near to Ai Helis and Ammes beaches. Avithos beach is about a mile from the centre of the village, its beautiful and remains uncrowded all season. Avithos is ideal for children as the water is shallow, and there are a 2 tavernas at the beginning of the beach, and space to park.Avithos area is developing and offers lots of new accommodation including villas and Avithos resort.

The village has hotels including the Irinna and Blue Horizon and a variety of self-catering apartments and studios scattered around, many with their own pools and snackbar facilities.Kosmar, libra and Thomas cook feature the village in their brochures, but most of the accommodation in the resort can be booked independently, try flightline.co.uk for flight and accommodation deals.

The area is particularly suitable for couples and families seeking a quiet and relaxing holiday, with good food and fine sandy beaches. As the village is spread out please consider that your accommodation may be located a distance away from the tavernas and beaches, and the resort therefore may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties.

Svoronata has some excellent examples of elegant pre-earthquake architecture, just take a stroll around.

There are a few tavernas in the village and nightlife centres around these. Our personal favourites are Acropolis situated opposite the Greekstnes office,Dum Spiros Spero on the main street ,Porto Helis situated a little further down from the Greekstones office, and Koutopas Paradise which is near Ammes Beach. Crazy George's bar next door to the Greekstones office is lively during the summer season, particularly if they are showing English football! . If you fancy a change the livelier resorts of Lassi and Argostoli are only a few miles away, and offer plenty of bars and tavernas. If you prefer something quieter you could enjoy the scenery and true "greek Village atmosphere" in nearby Lakithra or Kourkoumelata. The international taverna in Lakithra is recommended, as is Obelix the Souvlaki Takeway, who deliver in the Svoronata area.

Svoronata village is spread out and has no village square .Most of the mini markets, car and motorcycle hire facilities, tavernas and bars are located along the road which leads towards Ammes and Ai Helis beaches. I would suggest that you hire a car at least for a few days as the bus service is infrequent.I can recommend Greekstones for friendly, reliable service. Taxi's can be ordered by telephone from Argostoli and fares to the capital are quite reasonable (around 10 euros) as the distance is only a few kilometres.

The nearest bank is located in Argostoli but exchange is available at the mini markets. There is now a cash machine in Lassi too which is nearer.

The tourist season in the Svoronata area ends earlier than in the Southern resort of Skala so after around the 14th October, many of the Tavernas have closed for the season and the resort is very quiet.

The Svoronata Area is an ideal base to explore the island,as you have good access to Argostoli and the Lixouri peninsular. Also if you take the road up from Travliata, pausing to visit St George's castle, and Agios Gerassimos, you can easily reach Mount Ainos, Sami and Aghia Efimia via the scenic route, observing the mountains, vines and olive groves.
