help me with kefalonia please!!!!
Hi all,
In May 2010 I will be visiting the beautiful island of Kefalonia for the first time and would love some help and advice so here goes:-
1. Does anyone know of a car hire company that is open when my flight arrives at 21.15 as most are closed?
2. Has anyone used a sat nav to help with directions when driving in Kefalonia or has anyone ever download Kefalonia maps for a Tom Tom?
3. Has anyone stayed at the Marina Bay Scala?
Thanks everyone for any help or advice

Hi Karen
Most people on the board do or have used Greekstones. Ivan and Angie will give you more information. I am sure they would provide you with care hire
when your flight arrives that time of the evening. Not sure if you will need a Sat Nav on the Island. I do know someone who has stayed at the Marina
Bay, I will drop them an email and ask if they can give you any information on what it like there.

HI,
Welcome to the board.
I am sure that someone from Greekstones would be available to meet your flight. They can be conatcted on on 0030 26710 42201 and speak excellent
English.
There is really only one main road to Skala so you wont get lost.
Marina bay is not in Skala itself but out at Mounda Beach, so you will need transport to get to and from the Hotel.
Anything else please ask away!

Thank you very much for your help.
I have emailed Greekstones and managed to change my flight to land at 12.30 so hopefully be easier.

We stay at Marina Bay, it is basically in the middle of nowhere between Katelios & Scala, you would need a car or use taxis.
It is bed & breakfast and typically Greek furnishing.
Let me know if you want to know anything else.
Jane.

Greekstones without a doubt - they will meet you no matter what time - just ask.
Im sure you wont need a sat nav on Kef. its too small you cant get lost.
Enjoy the island

Hi Karen we use venus rent a car . Kostas will meet you at airport
or deliver to Mounda Beach,he provides a brilliant map with all the updated roads on not a tourist map.
Mpounda beach is 1 of our favourite beaches and we use it a lot when we go to Kef
Lunched at Mounda beach hotel there omeletes are fantastic.

I am a little surprised by your comment *I have emailed Greekstones and managed to change my flight to land at 12.30 so hopefully be easier*. In you
original post you said your *flight arrives at 21:15*. I hadn't realised that there were ANY flights from the UK that land so late. Was your original
flight with KISS or Viking? - If so you did well to change it.
Regarding car hire I can recommend Greekstones, but I reckon Venus have a slight edge on price and terms. But both will give good service.
Marina Bay on Mounda beach is a nice quiet location. A great chill out place. You will need a car if you want to see more of the island.
You mentioned Satnav. Forget it. Greece is way behind the times. Buy an *Airplanes Editions* map as soon as you arrive (only about €2½ - or free with
a Venus car).
Have a great time. I will be there in May. It is the best time of year. Get out and see all the wild flowers etc .....................

Hi Karen,
No idea when you will actually be on Kefalonia - so my comment might be out of date now...anyways....
I used a Garmin SatNav on the Island - or rather tried to - it had a few of the main roads - but not enough to really make it any use at all. So I
would not count on any SatNav to be of immense help to you. The upside is - as everyone says - it is not difficult to use a good old fashioned map -
and if you do get a bit lost - your never actually that far from anything - head for the coast road and you'll be fine.
We were about to sign a contract with Marina for our daughters wedding in June 2011 - but changed our minds when we found out that all music and
bright lights have to be off by 11pm due to Mounda being a prime Turtle egg laying beach - we like that little hotel - we LOVE the location - and are
sad that the turtles got in the way - but agree that they deserve a little TLC :)
Others have said you'll need a car - unless you are super fit - you will - walking up the hill from Mounda to get to Skala would be a great way to
lose weight - but its a steep walk on a hot day.
